Although its building itself on the idioms found in the evolution of contemporary Black Music (In particular Rap’s Mumble phase) and is living on the shoulders of its ‘alternative’ R&B predecessors (Sade, Minne Ripperton and even Aalyiah at times), this album sounds as if its movement forward, scoring a Southern Black Future. “When I Get Home” is an album made for the future, unborn Ancestors of Black America. ![]()
